NSW LICENCE & REGULATORY CHECKS

Check a NSW real estate agency’s licence

Check the legal business behind the agency name. A corporation licence and an individual agent’s licence are separate records.

1. Get the company name or licence number

Ask the agency for its legal company name and corporation property licence number. A shopfront brand, franchise name or trading name can differ from the company that holds the licence.

AgentCheck searches the NSW property licence records by name or licence number. ABN and ACN lookup are not offered here; use the official register if you need those search options.

2. Match the corporation record

Enter the legal company name or corporation licence number in AgentCheck. Name searches can return several businesses and older records. Compare the company name, licence number, suburb and listed business premises.

Open the matching record and look for “Property – Corporation” in the licence type. Review its status, expiry and any conditions. Ask the agency to clarify any mismatch before relying on the result.

3. Check the person and regulatory register

Search the individual agent separately. Service NSW also advises that relevant directors’ or partners’ licences may need separate searches.

For the selected company, follow Step 2 to open the official Name and Shame Register. Search using the company’s licence number or legal name and read any matching notice. Return to AgentCheck for guidance. We do not automatically search that register.

What does a company match tell me?

It identifies a returned licence record; it is not an endorsement of the agency or proof that every person working there holds the right licence. A missing result also does not, by itself, establish that a business is unlicensed. Confirm its legal details and check the official source.
